Week 5 Blog from Logan and Ben

This week the dental service van visited our school its been taking people inside for a check up. The dental van looks at peoples teeth and says when they need another check up and if they need treatment or not. Some people have great teeth, some people have bad teeth.
Also, for our Systems Inquiry, the Wairere team have to chosen what part of the school that they want to make better and why they think that area needs to be worked on to make our school better! Yay!

Week 3 Post from Matt and Jayden

Last week the Wairere team went on a walk to see Gap Filler sites. Went on a bus to Latimer Square. Then we walked to the city and went to different gap filler sites. Matt`s favourite part was when we got there we saw this sculpture hanging in the air, but when we got closer we saw that it was actually it was steel that was keeping it up. Jayden`s favourite part was when got to go to the Dance-O-Matic. Most people were dancing. On Monday we had the winter tournament. It was fun playing in the tournament. The football/soccer team came 9th/10th and the rugby team came 5/5 so they lost every game. The netball  team 4th/5th and the hockey team came last or 5/5. So it wasn`t a good day for Wairakei School.

Shania's Week 7 post

This week in absolutely brilliant room 2 we have been doing some awesome work in reading inquiry and science. For reading inquiry we have been working on blurbs, which means information from inside the book that we we're/are reading and turning that into the back of a book cover.
In science we have been working on trying to create sound energy by using recycling, clean rubbish and more materials just like that.

Update from Connie and Jungmin for Week 6

Hey guys!
We’ve been doing visual art on famous sculptors. We’ve been making sculptures with tinfoil and representing energy by making it into an action of animal pictures we chose. We are also doing science with Room 1.
Hagley sport - hey year 5’s; 4’s; 6’s how was Hagley? The netball teams travelled with the rugby teams. The football and hockey teams traveled together because hockey has been moved to Nunweek Park now. It was very exciting.

Christian and Joseph - Week 5

Hey guys, here in Room 2 we have been doing research on very famous sculptors. We have published our research on Inspiration. We have also been training for our winter sports but have unfortunately missed out on two games. We have been doing science experiments with heat and light which were very interesting to do. We have done some amazing maps of some books that we have recently been reading.

Becky and Gabby - Week 4

Last week in Room 2 we started doing some science experiments on light. We started to make a magic colour wheel which was supposed to turn white, but most of them did not work.
We also started a Kaleidscope using lots of paper, cardboard, beads, glitter and sequins.
Last week, sadly the Hagley sports got cancelled due to rain so we had a practice instead.
The A and B netball teams were invited to play a game against another school.

We jumped on the trampoline and I jumped really high. The last thing we did was go to the skate park and we went on scooters. I stayed at his house for two days and one night. I slept in his bedroom. We had sausages for dinner, sandwiches for lunch, and cereal for breakfast. I had a lot of fun at Ethan's house. I wish I can do it again!

Wellington Zoo

On Tuesday the 22nd of April  in Wellington my aunty, my mum,  my brothers and I went to the zoo to see some big, small and fluffy animals.
We arrived at the zoo and paid to enter. The very first thing we saw were big enclosures. In one of them there were two Otters curled tight together. Some tiny Monkeys were hanging around in a small enclosure filled with colourful fruits.
We came to a Kiwi walk through. It was super dark but we managed to see the fragile creature. In a group we walked to the Sunbears and Tigers. They were both big and fluffy, they were by far my favorite animals.
After that we looked in on the red Panda. There was a awesome place called Australia in the zoo and we saw animals like Dingos and Wallabies. At the end of the day we got hot chips and went to the gift shop before going home.

FISHING TRIP.
In the holidays I went fishing with my family. We drove to Okiwi Bay in Nelson. It was four hours to get to Nelson and two more hours to get to Okiwi Bay. The water was very cold and 50 meters deep. Also it was very murky. We cast our rods and we caught lots and lots of fish, and a sea slug it was very slimy and looked like a big bogy. I got a turn to drive the boat back to the shore then we drove home again.

Year 5 Camp by Drew and Amelia

On Monday the Year 5s went to our camp at Lake Ellesmere Marae. At the start we had a lovely welcome.  We did a hongi and sang some songs. We had to say our mihi it was a little bit embarrassing but most people got over it.  After that we had some food and one of the ladies told us a story about how the marae started. It was a lovely welcome and we settled into our sleeping quarters. We slept on mats and we slept with Miss Wood one night and Miss Oliff the other night and we slept in our sleeping bags. The sleeping quarters had a lovely smell and they had some beautiful paintings and carvings. The boys were very noisy but I still got a good night sleep. After unpacking we had dinner. For dinner we had spaghetti bolognese it was yum but the pasta was a bit too sticky and the carrots in the the mixed vegetables were a bit too undercooked. The rest was great, for pudding we had apple crumble. Now of course that part was good! Do you know who made it? Mr Buckner our principal made it and it was delicious. After that we got ready to play spotlight. The first game I was a tagger it was fun being a tagger I was tagging with Caide and Mitchell, we had so much fun. After spotlight we got ready for bed my sleep was great.  In the morning we had breakfast. For breakfast I had toast, after breakfast the adventure started.  I could talk about more but this blog might get too big. Ka kite ano and have a lovely rest of your day, from Drew and Amelia.

Teagrae and Sophie share their camp experiences

Year 6 Camp

We are going to tell you all about the fun we had at our year 6 camp in Okains Bay.

Firstly is the location, we thought it was going to be the Okains Bay camp site but it turned out it wasn’t, it was the Okains Bay school we went to, because the campsite was closed from the storm.

Then was putting up the tents.  It was a real mission because most people thought that the windows were the front door.  Second was making our dinner, we had to use a cooker it was really fun.

Thirdly we played spotlight for all the nights we were at camp.   The last night was the most fun because the teachers and parents were the hunters and it felt like the Hunger Games.  It was so much fun.  It was all fun, but the most fun was all the swimming we did.  We went to the lagoon first, the three boys got so muddy.  Other people went canoeing and crab catching.

Last but not least packing up our own tent and helping others with theirs because packing up our own tents after 4 days was easy for some but other people struggled to put down their tent, so we helped each other.  Oh I forgot to tell you, the other mission was to pack up everything such as tents, food, clothing and more! We had to get all the trailers into the school and pack, pack, pack!

Week 5 Post from Milli and Eliece - our first Room 2 Learner's post!!

Hey guys and girls! This term we are learning about how to be good digital citizens. We have been watching videos about cyber bullying and have made pic collages about cyber bullying and how to prevent it. We are also learning about how to control our digital footprint. We have been learning about the five characteristics. The year 6’s have been preparing for their camp and soon it will be the year 5’s turn. There are approximately 40 year 6’s going to Okains bay. Both camps will be going to a Marae and one of them will be staying at one.
We are taking a few tests and I’m pretty sure the new people are settling in well. Everyone seems to be settling into the routine. Breaks have changed but everyone has gotten used it.
Student leaders have been applying to Mr Buckner and he will soon be choosing the new ones.
CAN’T WAIT FOR CAMP!!!
